HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Last night we decorated the haunted Halloween house and had a hoot of a time!  It was more fun & messy than I thought it would be and of course my kid LOVED it - that's all that matters.  Then I forgot to post some of the ZOO BOO pictures from the Memphis Zoo.  I took tons of pictures so I just picked a couple I wanted to share with you.  I hope everyone has a FUN & safe time trick or treating tonight!

Let me try it again...

(I'm clearing my throat)...I"M SWIMMING!

I was able to fix all (20) of the 9-patches last night.  So that means, I will be able to work on sewing the center tonight...right after we decorate our cookie haunted house & then after that - I need to figure out where each block should go.  Well, at least it's Friday night and I can stay up as late as I want or at least as long as my brain will let me. : )

Have a giggle on me...

If you take a closer look at my 9-patches (in the below post) you might notice that there are some that don't have a colored center.  I guess in my excitement I didn't notice - until now - just when I was about to lay out my center piece.  Needless to say, I have to redo 20 of my patches...it's going to be a long night!

I'm swimming!

Kelly, whose hosting our Half-Pint quilt along (who also happens to be our team leader on the CGQC) asked if we were swimming in 9-patches.  Now I can say that I am!  Those squares sure are small but still I'm glad to be doing this quilt along because I've never done a 9-patch quilt.  Maybe down the road I might try to do a bigger quilt (I said maybe)  Well, I'm hoping to have the center together in the next day or two...

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

Labels - Less is more...

When it comes to labels (and pretty much everything else - especially make-up) I believe in the 'LESS IS MORE' motto. Even if I had pretty hand writing, a printer or an embroidery machine, I still wouldn't want that kind of label. I guess it all depends on the style of the quilt maker - right? Well, instead of doing a detailed label, I ordered these custom made tags from Lola.  I sewed this tag on the mini quilt.  And when I was quilting it, I quilted the date 'OCT 2009' into the quilt.  I just love the simplicity of it and how it turned out - I just forgot to take a picture of it.  Anyhoo - but don't get me wrong, I do enjoy looking at labels.  I especially like the one Esther did for her mini quilt.  If your into labels, you really should go check hers out - very snazzy!  And if anyone has suggestions on simple labeling techniques - I would love to hear about it.

Online Red Kettle

Kris has started this really neat giveaway.  All you have to do is leave a comment and your entered.  Then if you feel like putting some change in her kettle - you can get 5 more entries.  If you blog about it, you get an extra entry.  So when you look at the whole picture, it's a win - win!  I didn't even know there was an online Red Kettle thing...all I know is - when that red kettle shows up, we put a little something in it each time we see it.  It feels good to give.  No matter how small or big, what matters is you try your best to do some good.

Oh, and if you want to know what the prize is go check her out at Dandelion Quilts.

Mini Quilt Swap - DONE!

I hope my swap partner likes it.  This is the 4th quilt I've completed and it is the 2nd quilt I've quilted on Bessie.  Yes, that's right - I think I've finally figured her out, now all I have to to do is just practice.  Anyhoo, I sent it out by UPS Ground today.  She should have it by Thursday...call me silly but I still feel nervous.

Dinosaur Uproar - DONE!

The quilt top is done!  I'm really please with how it turned out.  As some of you know, I was only able to work on it when my little one was away from the house.  So as of right now, I have completed one of my CCGC (hosted by Joan this month) projects.

I'm hoping to post a picture of my mini quilt for the swap later today.  Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday.

ZOO BOO at the Memphis Zoo

We are leaving first thing Friday morning, taking a road trip to Memphis for the weekend.  When we were researching our trip, we knew we wanted to take our little guy to the zoo and whadda ya know - the ZOO BOO for Halloween happens to start on the 16th!  AWESOME!  So tomorrow night we will be at the Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center ZOO BOO event.  In addition to the zoo and the Bass Pro Shop, I've made sure I have at least 1 or 2 quilting/fabric stores put on our to 'visit' list.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend sewing!

CGQC October Tag...

Joan is hosting our club this month and she has just tagged us.  The question is:  Which shoe fits you and why do you think so?

I happen to think I fit into 2 different shoes, the easy going & the young at heart.  I'm easy...going that is.  Most of the time I go with the flow because I do...but when I don't want or care for something I know when to use my voice.  I'm a Libra.  I like the motto;  Don't sweat the small stuff because in the end it's all small stuff.  When it comes to the young at heart, I believe that age is just a number.  I do admit to being goofy at times but I love to laugh.  I believe laughing keeps your heart & soul young...and people look so much better when their doing it!

Pecan Pie by Robert N.

Joan, who is hosting our CGQC this month, is collecting holiday recipes for our club.  So I was going through my recipes and I came across one that was given to me by my brother-in-law, Robert.  I've made it several times over the years during the holidays and it's always turned out pretty good.  So here it goes...you will need

3 eggs (beat them in a separate bowl)
1 1/2 Cup of Light Syrup
1/3 Cup of Brown Sugar
1 Table spoon of flour
1 1/2 tsp. of vanilla
2 Table spoons of butter (melted)
1 1/2 Cups of chopped pecans

Mix all of the ingredients together expect the pecans.  Once everything is mixed well, add the pecans.  Then pour into an unbaked pie crust.  Bake for 1 hour at 325 degrees.  Now before you put the pie in the oven, you might want to put a ring of foil around the edge of the crust, it keeps the crust from turning dark brown.

When Robert gave me this recipe, he told me the secret was in the baking - 1 hour at 325 degrees.  He must be right because the pies have always turned out yummy.  And if Teresa & Kelly are reading this - you will want to make this pie...and anyone else who likes pecan pie.  On top of tasting pretty good it's soooooo EASY!  If you happen to make this, let me know what you think.

I'm tired.

Since I have started quilting/sewing I can't remember ever being too tired to work on something.  But today was a long day & I'm feeling it tonight.  I'm just dog tired.  I wonder where that saying came from?

Yes, I'm going to say it...I think I'm going to take a break tonight and just watch the Jets & Dolphins play...and maybe make another pumpkin roll?  Hope y'all are having a better night than me...until next time, happy sewing!

3 Words...

DE - LI - CIOUS!  I made Joan's Pumpkin Roll today and it was awesome!  Not only did it taste good, it was sooooo easy to make.  Thanks to Joan for sharing such a treat!

Oh, and if you do happen to make this, it says to refrigerate it so the cream cheese filling will firm a little to make cutting easier.  You'll probably want to wait more than 5 minutes for the frosting to firm up.   Hehehehehe!

The Blogger's Quilt Festival has now begun!

This is my first wall hanging and my son thinks it's awesome.  I'm very happy with how it turned out.  I just want to say that I'm excited about being a part of the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  Thanks to Amy for throwing this awesome party!!!

Bella Solids Color Card

One word - AWESOME! Okay two - HUGE!  It just came in yesterday and I am sooooo glad I got it.  It folds in half, so when you open it, it measures approx. 17x22...nice.

Depending on whose driving, I'm about 2 hours south of Little Rock, AR & 2 hours north of Monroe, LA - so it's not like I can jump in the car and hop on over to a fabric store.  I know I've said it before but I'm going to say it again....Thank GOD for internet shopping!!!!!  Just in case any of you were interested, click here.

Charm Pack Deal - 5 for $25

This is too good not to share...Melinda (my barrel racing friend) came across this store and found an amazing deal.  You can get 5 charm packs for $25.  They have a pretty nice selection to choose from.  I'm not sure how long the sale will last.  Since most of us are on a budget (some tighter than others), this is really an awesome deal.  On top of that, we split the shipping cost!  If your interested, you should check out The Clever Quilter.

The Caroler by M.E.

After going back and forth, and back and forth, I decided to do our Half Pint Quilt Along in this line.  I had 3 different jelly rolls to choose from and this line just seemed right.  I also want to have something to hang up for Christmas.  With that in mind, I'm thinking I might adjust the borders to make it smaller, who knows, I'm just thinking out loud...

Okay, the Vikings and Packers are playing in about 20 minutes...I don't think I can do any sewing/ironing tonight.  I'm just nervous thinking about it.  ANYHOO...

GO BRETT!!! ( & go Packers.)

I can't help it, I'm a Packer fan but maybe it's because he's a Libra & I'm a Libra?  Or it could be that Brett is Brett...know what I mean?

Dinosaur Uproar Update...

So this is a picture of the center of the quilt.  There are 4 rows and I'm working on the last block of that row.  Trying to piece this sucker in secret has been a challenge.  While my guys were out doing the grocery shopping today, I managed to sew these rows together.  I'm excited that I only have the last row, inner & outer border to sew on and I will be done with this top!  VERY EXCITING!  Since this will be a Christmas present for my little guy I think I'm right on track with completing this quilt.  Okay, football is on so I need to go! Hope everyone has had an enjoyable weekend...

October Projects for the CGQC

It's that time again, we have to list our projects for the CGQC by the 7th.  These are my projects I would like to complete this month:

  1. Quilt the mini swap quilt
  2. Finish the Half Pint Quilt Along Top
  3. Finish the Wonky Log Cabin Quilt Along Top (hopefully the new color I picked will mesh better with the blocks...waiting for it to come in the mail)
  4. Thanksgiving wall hanging/runner
  5. Dinosaur Uproar (my secret mission quilt) I feel like I'm going to finish the top this month!

I know it's a lot but with the holiday season right around the corner, I want to get some projects done.  Also, if you want to join the club, just hop on over to Joan's blog.  She will be hosting this months festivities.

Terry & her Husband

Terry's husband was in a terrible accident.  I'm not going into the details because it tears me up and besides you can read Terry's own words.  So Laurie is rounding up the troops to do a special project for Terry & her family.  And on top of that, giving people who participate a chance to win a jelly roll (how nice is that!).  If your interested please visit these 2 lovely ladies.

LOVER BOY (the 80's band)

"Everybody's working for the weekend..." remember that song? Oh yeah, what about the video? If my memory serves me right, in the video the lead singer was in red leather pants, back then he was HOT (whatever his name is).  Anyhoo, that song was going through my head all day today, I couldn't wait til five o'clock! As soon as I get everyone in our house settled, yes I'm planning to stay up late and make some time to sew & figure out what my October projects will be!  One thing I do know for sure is that I want to complete my mini quilt for the swap - ASAP.  I will show you all of it when my swap girl gets it.

Which this is a reminder, you have until the 7th to join the Charming Girls' Quilt Club and list what projects you would like to complete for the month.  Besides meeting a bunch of AWESOME ladies, at the end of the month there is a drawing for (2) $25.00 gift certificates to Kelly's store.  It's a win win thing!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Have a wonderful day!
