My Fabric Shack

Like everyone out there - I LOVE shopping for/looking at fabric.  Of course, I'm 2 hours away (north & south) from a fabric store so most of my shopping is online but I digress...ANYHOO...

Jane of Jane's Quilt and Fabric has opened up 'My Fabric Shack'...you should check it out.  And if you haven't checked out her blog - you should.  It's a fun place to visit, I don't know her but I really like her...I know it sounds a little creepy...lol!  Maybe I should say - I really like how her personality comes through on her blog...yeah, that sounds better.  I think she's very talented and I definitely feel inspired after visiting her blog.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

Change of plans...

Imagine that! lol!  So here I'm thinking I'm going to work on my wonky log cabin quilt...BUT I found out that DeeRooo & Old Red Barn Co. are doing another quilt along - round #9 - TICKER TAPE QUILT!!!!  Ever since I've seen it on Crazy Mom Quilts blog, I've wanted to make one.

SOOOO, I'm going to join the party.  I had tons of fun with the rail fence quilt along and I just loved the wonky log cabin (until I hit a speedbump) quilt along.  I believe this will be a fun ride!  If your interested, it just started so it's not too late to join in on the fun!

My heart is in this project!!! (big smile)

Stephens Passage, Alaska

Another neat animal story.
Four young Sitka black-tailed bucks fell upon good luck Sunday as they were pulled from the icy waters of Stephens Passage, Alaska by a group of locals on Tom Satre's 62-foot charter vessel. Four juvenile Sitka black-tailed deer swam directly toward the boat.
Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at the humans on board. Clearly, the bucks were distressed. With help, the typically skittish and absolutely wild animals came willingly onto the boat. Once onboard, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering.
Here the rescued bucks rest on the back of Tom Satre's boat, the Alaska Quest. All four deer were transported to Taku Harbour . Once the group reached the dock, the first buck that had been pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back, then leapt into the harbour, swam to shore, and disappeared into the forest. After a bit of prodding and assistance from the humans, two others followed suit, but one deer needed more help.
Here he is being transported by Tom Satre
Tom, Anna and Tim Satre help the last of the "button" bucks to its feet. They did not know how long the deer had been in the icy waters or if there had been others who did not survive. The good Samaritans (humans) describe their experience as "one of those defining moments in life." I sure it was for the deer,as well.

***This is an email I got from a friend, it looks & sounds to be true.  Anyhoo, it was a neat story & I wanted to share it with you.

CGQC Theme for January & February...really for 2011

This is our theme:  Word Up!  This is what Kelly said in her post: ' So, for our theme this month - I'd like for you all to choose a word that you'd like to see reflected in your life in the coming year - a word to visit periodically, and to focus on throughout the year!'  And it got me thinking...what word would I pick to enhance my year?  So, I'm thinking...I'm thinking ...I'm thinking...(flash back to the scene from Night of the Museum...lol!)  and I think I got it - it's:

Savor
part of speech: verb
defined: delight in, enjoy

And thanks to Kelly - I'm writing it down for 2011 so I make sure I savor every moment
(fun & not so fun).
Because you never know when you'll be called home...

My first project for 2011...

I joined Quilt Dad & ORB's Wonky Log Cabin QAL...way back & I never finished.  As I look back as to why I didn't finish - that awful feeling of disappointment just resurfaced.  See, I picked this color - teal -  to use as the sashing & border for the quilt and it was pretty on the screen but when my order came in, seeing the true color just turned me off from the project completely.  And as I look back, I can't figure out why I just didn't use white?  Well, I'm crossing it off my list now.  I'm using M.E.'s Recipe for Friendship and I just love the colors.  I love the wonky look.  I can't wait to get this top done.

ps...this will be my only goal for the CGQC for Jan/Feb.
